Job Description
The responsibilities for the Accountant position include preparation of monthly journal entries and reconciliations and addressing ad hoc requests for the Utility Accounting team. The Accountant is primarily responsible for recording and reporting on Operations and Maintenance Expenses for a Local Distribution Utility; Variance analysis; FERC ledger and FERC reporting; and other ad hoc requests. This role must work well with strict deadlines. This include preparing and maintaining rider related entries and working with the regulatory accounting team. This position requires 4 days in office - onsite.
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
•BA/BS degree in Accounting or Finance
•Intermediate to Advance knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
•Demonstrated problem-solving abilities, including the ability to critically think and present new or creative solutions.
•Common ERP (e.g., Oracle) and reporting knowledge/abilities.
•Skilled in using Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
•Strong organizational skills.
•Strong account reconciliation skills.
•Team player and with the ability to work independently.
•Ability to work in an organized, detailed manner under tight deadlines.
Preferred:
•Natural gas or similar regulated industry experience.
•Accounts Receivable/Bad Debt Analysis experience a plus.
MAJOR JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
•Record financial transactions via journal entries.
•Perform general ledger account reconciliations; analyze and research outstanding items/issues.
•Monitor reports/accounts/expenses; determine and make necessary adjustments.
•Work with customers (internal and external) to resolve problems; answer questions and provide recommendations.
•Generate standard and non-standard reports; analyzes data.
•Calculate, review, and analyze financial information relating to specialty area (e.g., general ledger, FERC ledger); analyze variances; use professional judgment and expertise to perform complex estimates and calculations.
•Monitor and analyze expenditures and balance sheet variances.
•Demonstrate ability to multi-task and prioritize.
•Independently and creatively solve problems.

•Work with customers (internal and external) and colleagues to resolve problems.
•Assist internal customers with recommendations on recording transactions; explain the impact to the general ledger and financial statements.

Travel Requirements:
•Infrequent Traveler (0-5% travel): The incumbent may be required to travel on a very limited basis. Trips may require air travel and/or overnight stay away from home for one or more nights.
