We are looking for a talented professional to join the AWS Real Estate Land Development Team who will operate on both strategic and tactical levels to support the expansion of AWS’s Data Center Network in the U.S.
The Senior Transportation/Traffic Engineer position will lead all traffic related activities to support data center development and delivery. The Traffic Engineer will engage with external traffic consultants to perform a range of technical studies including traffic impact and construction traffic studies to evaluate the impact of development on surrounding roadway infrastructure, identify required improvements, develop cost estimates and timelines, and participate in traffic improvement related negotiations and agreements with Authorities Having Jurisdiction (AHJs). They will ensure that deliverables from external consultants are technically sound, meet project objectives and are delivered on schedule and within budget. A successful candidate in this role will have strong technical expertise in traffic engineering and AHJ/government engagement experience. Candidate should have a proven track record of delivering multiple high-priority projects with tight deadlines that require strong project management and cross-functional coordination with various internal and external partner teams.
Key job responsibilities
• Lead and manage external traffic vendors responsible for preparing data center Traffic Impact and Construction Traffic Studies. Establish clear expectations for scope, schedule, budget, and deliverables.
• Oversee all traffic-related tasks throughout the full cycle of data center land development projects. Identify required roadway improvements, develop cost estimates needed for development agreements negotiations with AHJ’s, and highlight risks that can affect project schedules.
• Review and evaluate vendor deliverables to ensure technical accuracy, compliance with AHJ standards, and alignment with project goals and timelines. Offer technical guidance and develop mitigation strategies as needed.
• Collaborate cross-functionally with internal and external stakeholders including Design Engineering, Real Estate, Due Diligence, Pre-Construction, Construction, Security, Operations, Economic Development, Legal, Public Policy, Technical Infrastructure Program Managers, and General Contractors on various traffic related activities.
• Represent AWS in engagement with AHJs regarding transportation infrastructure improvements. Attend public and project specific meetings to negotiate strategic business interests and secure necessary approvals.
• Develop, document, and refine internal traffic engineering processes and strategies to drive consistency, efficiency, and scalability across projects.
• Perform data driven traffic analysis, implement lessons learned across projects, and proactively align methods with evolving regulations, tools, and professional guidance.
