Talent Inclusion Consultant
Summary:
The Talent Inclusion (TI) Consultant supports Southern Company’s efforts to create a welcoming and inclusive workplace to meet the needs of our employees and the customers and communities we serve.

The TI Consultant position will support the implementation of employee engagement programming, new strategies, learning and development and other innovative inclusive practices to execute on our goals.
Reporting to the Talent Inclusion (TI) Manager, Programs & Engagement, the TI Consultant will help execute the design and oversight of programs and engagement initiatives that enhance understanding and implementation of inclusion principles. The TI Consultant will be responsible for providing operational excellence in the strategy, management, and support of Employee Resource Groups (ERGs), Employee-Led Councils, and local external partnerships (including advocacy groups and community-based organizations). This role is integral to driving our value proposition and achieving business outcomes through inclusive practices.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Help execute, design and implement programs that promote inclusion across the organization
- Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of inclusion programs and initiatives, using data-driven insights to make recommendations for improvement
- Provide strategic oversight and support for Employee Resource Groups (ERGs) and Employee-Led Councils, ensuring alignment with company goals and inclusion objectives
- Create and maintain procedures, toolkits, calendar and communication channels that support efficient and effective programming
- Serve as an administrator of INDI, software platform for streamlining ERG and employee-led council management
- Collaborate with Talent Acquisition to assist in establishing and nurturing partnerships with Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) and their alumni councils
- Cultivate and manage relationships with local external partners to enhance Southern Company’s inclusion initiatives and reputation
- Coordinate logistics for inclusion-related events and activities to include, but not limited to, booking rooms, ordering food, taking photos, etc.
- Work with internal stakeholders to integrate inclusion principles into business strategies and practices, while serving as a subject matter expert to provide guidance and support to employees and leadership
- Stay informed about industry trends, best practices and emerging issues in inclusion
- Develop and facilitate inclusive education, tools, and support for all levels of employees
- Attend occasional after-hours meetings and events
- Provide support to other projects as needed including consulting with business units, giving input on communications and training content, facilitating workshops, training and events that promote awareness and understanding of inclusion topics
Job Requirements
Consulting Skills
- Bachelor’s Degree in business, human resources management, organizational development or related field is required
- Minimum five (5) years of experience working in inclusion, employee engagement, workplace culture or organizational development in the corporate, non-profit, government, NGO or higher education sectors required
- Strong cultural competency and understanding in multiple areas of inclusion
- Demonstrated organizational savvy with the ability to effectively navigate complex structures, build relationships across departments, and leverage key networks to drive initiatives forward
- Ability to determine the needs of stakeholders and devise tailored solutions to their goals and objectives
- Capacity to think boldly and strategically to develop inclusion initiatives for employees in technical, customer service, and corporate roles
- Experience with serving as a trusted subject matter advisor across a range of stakeholders at varying levels of an organization
Relationships & Networking
- Demonstrated ability to cultivate and maintain effective relationships with various groups, including Employee Resource Groups (ERGs), Employee-Led Councils, advocacy groups and community-based organizations
- Ability to achieve "trusted advisor" status with stakeholders at all levels of the organization, providing credible and authentic guidance on inclusion-related matters
- Proven ability to work effectively in a matrixed environment, building alignment and fostering collaboration across cross-functional teams
- Demonstrated capability to influence and gain acceptance of ideas and strategies with employees and leadership, facilitating the integration of inclusion principles into business strategies
- Experience in engaging with community organizations and stakeholders to support and advance inclusion initiatives within the communities served by Southern Company
Communication Skills
- Outstanding oral and written communication skills with a track record of experience speaking and writing for a professional audience
- Highly proficient in using creative and accessible design principles to create engaging presentations and other visual aids
- Ability to write in a clear, concise, and professional manner with internal and external stakeholders including developing talking points that convey complex inclusion ideas and topics clearly to multiple audiences
Training and Facilitation
- Strong presentation and training skills; ability to convey complex topics in a relatable, sensitive, persuasive, and clear manner to audiences with varying levels of familiarity and comfort with inclusion topics
- Skilled in creating trainings and workshops as well as knowledge of how to devise learning outcomes and evaluation methods are highly desirable
- Experience with facilitation in a variety of settings including virtual and in-person

- Project management skills - demonstrated ability to be reliable, punctual and organized to manage multiple projects at the same time
- Ability to use facts and analytics to understand trends and develop solutions that lead to measurable impact on the organization
- Ability to travel throughout the Southern Company territory with occasional overnight trips is essential
- Note - this role requires the TI Consultant to telework part of the time. Ability to work effectively from a remote environment is therefore essential.
