Position Summary
The Director of Supply Chain Transformation provides enterprise-wide leadership for defining, directing, and delivering Ahold Delhaize's U.S. long-range supply chain transformation strategy. This role is responsible for conceptualizing and overseeing multi-year, multi-site initiatives that significantly impact the network's capacity, cost position, service performance, and future-state operating model.
The Director sets the strategic direction for network modernization, including distribution center expansion, automation and technology enablement, warehousing and transportation optimization, and end-to-end flow path design. The role exercises broad authority to shape strategic priorities, direct program governance, approve major methodological approaches, allocate internal and external resources, and guide cross-functional decision-making.
With responsibility for high-value capital initiatives, complex operational redesign, and multi-brand alignment, the Director influences enterprise strategic decisions, advises senior executives, and leads a team of managers, analysts, and external partners. Work is performed with a high degree of independence, requiring advanced technical, financial, and organizational leadership capabilities.
Primary Duties & What You'll Be Trusted to Deliver
Enterprise Strategy & Network Vision
- Develop and continuously refine ADUSA's 5-10-year supply chain network strategy, including distribution center footprint, automation roadmap, transportation network evolution, and flow-path optimization.
- Evaluate macro trends (labor markets, automation, sustainability, regulatory changes, transportation capacity, real estate dynamics) and advise executives on strategic implications and required network shifts.
- Lead scenario modeling and long-range planning to inform strategic decisions that impact service delivery, capital investments, cost structure, and brand growth.
Leadership of Large-Scale Transformation Programs
- Direct multi-year capital programs such as greenfield/brownfield distribution centers, major facility expansions, automation deployment, system migrations, and network reconfigurations.
- Oversee program governance, including scope management, stage-gate reviews, executive steering committee alignment, risk mitigation, financial oversight, and overall program delivery accountability.
- Serve as the senior leader responsible for integration across Operations, Engineering, Transportation, IT, Real Estate, Construction, Finance, HR, Labor Relations, and external vendors.
Executive Decision-Making & Governance
- Provide strategic recommendations and decision frameworks to senior leadership for capital approval, resource allocation, technology selection, and network design decisions.
- Represent supply chain transformation in enterprise governance bodies; drive alignment across brands and functional leaders on strategic priorities and implementation pathways.
- Ensure rigorous compliance with financial, safety, engineering, and project management standards across all initiatives.
Operational Innovation, Automation & Technology Enablement
- Champion the evaluation and deployment of innovative technologies (warehouse automation, robotics, machine learning for forecasting/optimization, digital execution tools).
- Oversee technology pilots, capability assessments, and scaling plans to ensure solutions deliver enterprise value and operational feasibility.
- Partner with IT and Engineering to shape the future-state technical architecture supporting ADUSA's distribution and transportation networks.
Cross-Functional Leadership & Stakeholder Alignment
- Build strong relationships with Brand Presidents, Supply Chain Operations leaders, Real Estate, Finance, and IT executives to ensure holistic alignment and adoption of transformation strategies.
- Provide the highest level of cross-functional leadership, breaking down silos and ensuring clear decision rights, transparent communication, and unified execution.
Financial Accountability
- Oversee multi-million-dollar capital and operating budgets for supply chain transformation programs.
- Ensure strategic initiatives meet or exceed financial, service, and operational performance targets.
- Drive cost-benefit analyses, NPV modeling, scenario planning, and financial risk assessments for major investments.
Organizational Leadership & Team Development
- Lead a team of managers, project leaders, analysts, and external partners, providing coaching, performance feedback, resource planning, and professional development.
- Build organizational capability in supply chain analytics, program management, engineering, and innovation across the transformation team.
- Establish best practices, templates, and standardized processes for enterprise-wide transformation efforts.
Communication, Influence & Change Leadership
- Prepare and deliver compelling executive presentations, including strategy updates, risk reviews, capital proposals, and transformation dashboards.
- Lead organizational change management for major structural transitions, ensuring readiness, adoption, and sustained value realization across distribution centers and partner teams.
- Translate complex technical and operational concepts into clear, actionable communication for diverse stakeholders.
Qualifications
Education
- Bachelor's degree in supply chain management, Industrial Engineering, Operations, Business, or related field required.\
- Master's degree preferred (MBA, MS in Supply Chain/Engineering/Operations Research).
Experience
- 10-15+ years of progressive experience in supply chain, operations, logistics, network strategy, or large-scale transformation roles.
- Minimum of 5+ years leading large, cross-functional teams and managing complex, high-value programs (>$50M).
- Track record of delivering multi-site or multi-brand distribution and transportation transformation initiatives.
- Experience influencing senior executives and shaping enterprise-level strategic decisions.
Knowledge
- Bachelor's degree in supply chain management, Industrial Engineering, Operations, Business, or related field required.
