Role Overview:
The Brand Manager in Southern Company’s Corporate Communication department drives external strategies and initiatives to enhance the company’s reputation and brand positioning among key audiences and stakeholders. This role provides leadership and strategic direction on integrated campaigns, advertising, partnerships, social media and media relations in support of business objectives. Working closely with internal system colleagues, agencies and external partners, the Brand Manager ensures brand communications reflect the company’s values, voice and meaningfully engage the parent company’s audiences across external channels.
Job Requirements:
- BA in communication, journalism, marketing, advertising or related field required
- 7+ years’ experience in advertising, social media, media, partnerships/sponsorships, communications and/or marketing, or management consulting.
- Strong leadership, project management, and creative and analytical thinking skills
- Ability to manage multiple, fast-paced projects on time and on budget
- Experience leading teams
- Demonstrated business acumen, brand strategy experience and ability to translate strategic objectives into actionable brand and marketing initiatives
- Excellent oral and written communications skills
- Knowledge of advertising processes, creative campaign development, campaign measurement and research, and media planning/buying
- Proven experience developing and managing budgets
- Experience working with external agencies, contracts and invoices
- Experience with Sprout Social, Lytho, and/or Monday.com is a plus
- Solid Microsoft office experience
Key Responsibilities:
Advertising & Brand Strategy:
- Lead strategic direction and creative development for advertising initiatives, ensuring alignment with brand objectives and corporate priorities.
- Serve as primary liaison with agency partners (e.g., FitzCo) overseeing content creation, media planning, budgeting, and timelines to deliver impactful, integrated campaigns.
Sponsorship & Partnerships:
- Oversee PGA TOUR sponsorship, including TOUR Championship and Payne Stewart Award branding, advertising campaigns and activations.
- Coordinate all aspects of golf and brand sponsorships throughout the year, ensuring integration with broader brand strategy.
Social Media & Digital Engagement:
- Oversee the execution of Southern Company’s organic social media strategy, ensuring timely delivery of engaging, platform-specific content that resonates with key audiences and amplifies the work of our operating companies.
- Ensure effective use of social media management tools (e.g., Sprout) by overseeing planning, publishing, and monitoring processes, while guiding teams to analyze performance metrics, track trends, and apply insights to optimize storytelling and audience engagement.
Media Relations:
- Oversee development and distribution of newsroom content, press releases, and media statements to ensure alignment with brand objectives and corporate priorities.
- Ensure external communications have consistent messaging and secure strategic earned media placements that enhance brand reputation.
Data & Insights:
- Direct collaboration with research partners (e.g., Morning Consult) to gather actionable insights that inform advertising, content, and brand strategies.
- Monitor and evaluate campaign performance, leveraging data to guide optimization and continuous improvement.
Financial & Project Management:
- Manage budgets and oversee processing of agency/vendor invoices, ensuring accuracy and timely payment processing.
- Ensure timely execution of projects by leading scheduling, stakeholder coordination, and adherence to key milestones.
People Leadership:
- Provide strategic direction, coaching and oversight for three direct reports to ensure they are well-informed on brand, company objectives and equipped for success in their respective roles.
