START Family Mentor to provide peer support to help families navigate child welfare, court, treatment, and related systems while offering hope and motivation to support healing and family unity.

Your Role in Our Mission
Working as part of a START dyad with a specially trained child welfare worker, you’ll help deliver intensive wrap-around services to families affected by substance use disorders (SUD). The FM also educates child welfare staff and community partners on SUD and recovery. Case decisions are made collaboratively with the START worker, family, and supervisor, following established guidelines and practices.

What We’re Looking For
- To join our team as a Family Mentor (FM), you must bring lived experience, empathy, and a commitment to supporting families affected by substance use disorders and involved in the child welfare system. You should be able to problem-solve, work collaboratively with START team members, and approach families with compassion and respect. We also require:
- Certified Peer Support Specialist Certification, or willingness to obtain within one year
- A minimum of two years in long-term recovery with knowledge of SUD recovery and self-help programs
- Lived experience (direct or indirect) with the child welfare system
- High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation
- Commitment to abstinence from substance use (MOUD applicants welcome)Valid driver’s license, insurance and reliable transportation for work-related travel
