Business Development Manager
The Business Development Manager is responsible for origination efforts and regional leadership of Southern Power Company’s wholesale marketing, strategic project development, and customer care activities. Responsibilities include but are not limited to customer relationship building, prospecting, identification and prioritization of profitable business opportunities, management of competing priorities, leadership of bid proposal processes, and leadership of contract negotiations related to specific business opportunities. The position is directly responsible for origination efforts and will lead cross functional teams to support these efforts. This position may provide direct work direction for Business Development Associates assigned to the region. The position directly manages activities and initiatives in support of Southern Power’s business and is accountable for growth and customer care within the region.
For the Southeast Region, marketing new and existing gas and renewable assets is a primary focus, along with responsibilities outlined above.
MAJOR JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Lead and execute Business Development activities (new business origination and customer care)
- Develop and execute wholesale Power Purchase Agreements to support new generation construction and remarketing
- Execute and provide leadership for Business Development activities related to wholesale customer opportunity development, customer management, and customer assessments
- Provide support for activities related to potential generation asset and portfolio acquisitions
- Develop and execute wholesale Purchase and Sale Agreements to support generation acquisition
- Work directly with Project Development teams to develop siting and development strategies that align with market opportunities and SPC corporate objectives
- Work directly with Acquisitions team to identify opportunities and to support the acquisitions of assets that need additional origination support
- Provide a high level of customer care to existing customers within the region
Candidates with the following preferred qualifications are encouraged to apply:
Education
- Bachelor’s degree required, field preferred – i.e. Business, Finance, Engineering, Experience, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- 2+ years’ experience working with customers to develop and execute wholesale Power Purchase Agreements to support new generation construction and remarketing
- Experience in business case valuation for wholesale power projects
- Experience in specific regional markets is preferred.
- Ability to develop and implement business development strategies
- Strategic thinking and planning skills
- Excellent decision making, interpersonal, teamwork and organizational skills
- Ability to manage multiple origination projects effectively with competing priorities.
- Ability to build relationships and communicate effectively internally and externally
