Safety & Health Specialist – Metering Services
Location: This position supports the Statewide Metering Services Organization. Work location is flexible dependent upon where the successful candidate resides currently in the State of Georgia.
This position requires 75% travel throughout the State of Georgia. A company vehicle will be provided.
JOB SUMMARY
Work with management, employees and safety committees in implementing injury avoidance and accident prevention programs and providing safety training. Assure compliance with all internal and external safety policies, regulations, and procedures. Analyze, develop and coordinate training programs to improve safety performance. Implement and follow-up on safety program initiatives. Provide safety support during storm restoration activities. Promote Georgia Power's Southern Lifestyle, Functional Movement, and Wellness initiatives. Model, promote and support an employee-owned safety culture that takes pride in Pursuing Safety Excellence, training and implementing S.T.E.P. and Critical Risk Plan. Partnering with the First Line Supervisors while performing S.T.E.P observations. Maintains the confidentiality of safety reports and incidents. Plays an active role in safety meetings, safety discussions and safety evaluations. Interfaces with regulatory agencies, assists in program writing, and ensures notification of the appropriate agency (s) in cases of non-compliance. Ensures employees know and understand Safety and Health policies and procedures by working and teaching employees.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
Experience and Education
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience in distribution or metering is required
- Storm/SERP response activity experience is preferred
- Meterman “A” experience is preferred
- Bachelor's degree is a plus
- Prior experience dealing with safety-related policies and procedures is a plus
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Must be highly motivated and possess strong self-initiative.
- Experience in a leadership role preferred
- Must possess the ability to work independently and is recognized as catalyst and change agent; willingness to challenge the status quo.
- The successful individual must possess the ability to develop into and be recognized as the subject matter expert in safety and health issues.
- Knowledgeable about metering operations and distribution organizations business activities, accident prevention and investigation procedures.
- Must have excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
- Must be able to communicate with all levels of employees in the Corporate and Distribution areas.
- Must be able to establish strong relationships with the Meter Services Leadership team and serve as an employee advocate on safety issues.
- Able to interpret safety rules and regulations.
- Must possess good analytical skills.

- Solid computer skills in MS Office products
- Strong research and presentation skills.
- Overnight travel required as necessary to support the state-wide Metering Services Organization
- Will effectively manage and work to eliminate risks associated by utilizing the STEP program (Behavior Based Observations) and Job Safety Briefings
- Responsible for investigating non-compliance incidents and ensures notification of appropriate regulatory agencies takes place.
- Will perform safety walk downs (audits) with members of the safety committee to eliminate risks associated with Safety and Health
