MEDICAL SERVICES TECHNICIAN – PLANT HATCH
Job Summary and Responsibilities:
The Medical Services Technician is an individual within the Medical and Fitness for Duty (FFS) organization that supports the drug and alcohol testing program, performed in accordance with the requirements of the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission regulations (10 CFR 26) and fleet FFD procedures. This position performs functions related to the drug and alcohol screening process, including but not limited to) collecting specimens for pre-access, random, follow-up, for-cause and post-event screens, assisting with and/or conducting random and follow-up pool notifications and appropriately documenting related information. The position requires travel to other SNC nuclear sites in Georgia and Alabama for in-processing, outages, staff relief and as requested by management.
This position conducts screenings such as hearing tests, pulmonary function tests, lab work, EKG, etc. for mandated physical examinations (e.g., Licensed Operators, Nuclear Security Officers, Fire Brigade members and respirator users) per applicable standards (OSHA, ANSI, etc.) and ensures both medical & FFD supplies area adequately stocked and ready for use. This position responds to medical emergencies and provides initial evaluation and/or treatment, as needed, for both occupational and personal injuries and illnesses and may be requested to take calls, as needed, outside of scheduled shift hours for medical or FFD issues/concerns.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Performs collections for urine drug testing in accordance with regulations and procedures.
- Performs breathalyzer tests in accordance with regulations and procedures.
- Reviews Chain of Custody Forms after collection to ensure completeness and accuracy.
- Assists with and/or conducts random and follow-up testing notifications and maintains notification worksheets
- Ensures and documents the maintenance and calibration of FFD equipment.
- Files paperwork in accordance with regulations and procedures.
- Performs screenings for physical examinations (e.g., hearing tests (includes hearing aids), blood pressure checks, pulse checks, pulmonary function tests, vision screenings, lab work, EKG, etc.)
- Transports lab specimens (blood, urine, saliva)
- Provides initial evaluation/treatment of occupational and personal injuries and illnesses, as needed.
- Performs assessments for personal conditions (i.e.: BP checks, glucose checks, etc.)
- Responds in the event of an emergency
- Follows bloodborne pathogen protocol (clean up blood, etc.)
- Ability to take calls outside of scheduled shift, as requested by the Medical Services Supervisor
- Works shift-work schedule for outages and collections per the FFD Rule requirements
- Communicates with company doctors
- Prepares appeals (requests for review)
- Prepares for audits and inspections
- Maintains strict adherence to Medical & FFD procedures and NRC regulations.
- Maintains strict confidentiality and security of all medical and FFD documentation and files.
- Performs administrative work as assigned by Site Supervisors (filing, scanning, shredding, making copies of forms (FFD and medical), cleaning work areas, marking FFD collection cups/CCF forms, answering phone, covering building for on-site/off-site meetings)
- Reviews and processes new hire paperwork (“wc form”)
- Assists during in-processing for outages and travel to other sites for outage assistance
- Stocks exam rooms and FFD collection areas
- Picks up supplies from warehouse/mailroom
- Ensures daily calibration of hearing booths
- Performs other duties as may be assigned by the Medical Services Supervisor/designee or Management.
Education, Qualifications, Skills and Competencies:
- Must be an LPN, EMT or Paramedic
- 1-3 years medical/FFD or related experience, preferred.
- Ability to be trained as breath alcohol and urine specimen collector; able to travel and take calls outside of scheduled shift
- Previous medical/FFD experience, preferred; experience with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint); Demonstrated values (trustworthy, reliable, honest, integrity, responsible, accountable, and confidentiality); Excellent verbal and written communication skills (includes 3-part communication); Attention to detail; Motivated and innovative self-starter.
