Summary: Southern Nuclear Operating Company's Nuclear Fuel and Analysis Department supports the Southern Nuclear fleet in nuclear fuel procurement, fuel contract administration, and fuel supply fiscal and inventory management accounting, fuel economic analysis, fuel fabrication oversight. The Nuclear Fuel Supply Manager is responsible for the strategic planning, procurement, and lifecycle management of nuclear fuel and associated services to support safe, reliable, and cost‑effective plant operations. This role leads fuel supply contracting, supplier relationships, and market analysis while ensuring compliance with regulatory, quality, and financial control requirements. This manager and their respective team will serve as the primary Southern Nuclear interface with external suppliers and stakeholders for nuclear fuel supply. This role leads a team of contract agents and engineers, offering a challenging and rewarding opportunity to provide strategic direction, work cross functionally, and execute nuclear fuel procurement strategies for Southern Nuclear.
Major Job Responsibilities:
Organizational Leadership
- Supervise assigned personnel including performance management.
- Develop and mentor team members through coaching, knowledge transfer, and deliberate exposure to fuel cycle, commercial, and regulatory complexities, building a deep bench of technically competent and commercially savvy fuel procurement professionals.
Fuel Supply Strategy & Planning
- Develop and execute long‑term and short‑term nuclear fuel supply strategies aligned with fleet operational needs.
- Support nuclear fuel reload planning, outage schedules, and fuel cycle optimization activities.
- Assess market conditions for uranium, conversion, enrichment, and fuel fabrication services.
Procurement & Contract Management
- Lead negotiation and administration of fuel supply and service contracts.
- Manage supplier performance, delivery schedules, pricing structures, and contract risks.
- Coordinate competitive sourcing events and evaluate supplier proposals.
Supplier & Stakeholder Management
- Maintain strong working relationships with fuel vendors, fabricators, and service providers.
- Coordinate with internal stakeholders including reactor engineering, outage planning, finance, legal, and regulatory teams.
- Represent the company in industry forums and supplier meetings.
Risk, Compliance & Governance
- Identify and mitigate fuel supply, geopolitical, market, and operational risks.
- Ensure compliance with NRC requirements, export controls, quality assurance programs, and corporate governance policies.
- Support audits, inspections, and regulatory inquiries related to fuel supply.
Financial & Analytical Support
- Develop fuel budgets, forecasts, and cost analyses.
- Track fuel inventory, commitments, and lifecycle costs.
- Prepare executive‑level reports and recommendations on fuel supply decisions.
Job Requirements:
Education:
- Bachelor’s Degree (Required): Bachelor’s degree in supply chain management, Business Administration, Engineering, Operations Management, Finance or Accounting, Economics, Legal Studies, or a related discipline.
- Advanced Degree (Preferred): Master’s degree such as an MBA, MS in Supply Chain, Finance, Contract Management or Engineering related disciplines.
Experience:
- A minimum of 8 years of experience in nuclear fuel, procurement, supply chain or accounting related functions.
- Strong understanding of the nuclear fuel cycle (uranium, conversion, enrichment, fabrication).
- Demonstrated experience with contract negotiation and supplier management.
