About AbilityLinks

About AbilityLinks

Persons with disabilities want the opportunity to pursue a career of their own choosing but have an unemployment rate that is two time higher than average, not counting individuals who become discouraged and stop actively seeking work. At the same time, businesses that value a diverse work force lag behind when it comes to disability inclusion. They want better access to candidates with disabilities.

That’s why AbilityLinks, a first of its kind website for persons with disabilities, was launched in 2001.

A program of Marianjoy Rehabilitation Hospital, part of Northwestern Medicine, AbilityLinks.org is a job opportunity website with the Human Touch. AbilityLinks helps persons with disabilities find jobs. It is a well established and valued part of the disability and business community, especially in the Chicago area.

By combining the latest technology and a caring Human Touch, AbilityLinks connects a dynamic talent pool of applicants with disabilities to a network of employers that value disability inclusion.

Each member company adds a company page to help others learn more about their business. The jobs the company posts appear on the page. Companies receive applications and can search resumes. Qualified candidates with disabilities post resumes and apply for jobs.

Over 700 AbilityLinks job seekers have reported finding employment. Thousands more have benefited from Human Touch services including job search consultation, job referrals, educational opportunities and opportunities to network with businesses and job programs.

A skilled talent pool and wide range of businesses

Applicant skills, experience, and background range from entry level to administrative, technical, professional and managerial. Member companies represent a wide range of industries, occupation types and business size.

A caring human touch

Experienced staff provide Human Touch services by phone, email, live chat and in person. Human Touch services include job referrals, job search consultation, resume writing, job training referrals and technical help using the website for those that lack computer skills.

A robust pool of community partners

Education, advocacy and job programs, and disability owned businesses, are all part of the AbilityLinks community. Each of these organizations creates a member page on AbilityLinks.org that describes the organization and how it can help businesses and job seekers.

Recruiting events and educational resources

AbilityLinks hosts virtual job fairs and webinars that connect employers to candidates, and maintains an events calendar and online library for members with the latest disability and employment resources and tools.
