Environmental Affairs Supervisor - Quality Assurance & Quality Control (QA/QC)
Please Note: This position is located at the GA Power Environmental Lab @ 2480 Maner Rd, Atlanta, GA & is a Full-Time, IN LAB , position, 5 DAYS A WEEK .
JOB SUMMARY
The Supervisor is responsible for providing leadership and management to a team of employees engaged in maintaining Quality Assurance and Quality Control (QA/QC) for the Environmental Laboratory. The position is responsible for fostering a safe and productive work environment by setting and communicating team goals, providing performance feedback, and developing a high performing team.
This role supervises the QA/QC staff and implements procedures and controls necessary to effectively manage the laboratory’s quality program to provide analytical data that helps the Company meet and exceed environmental compliance with state and federal regulations. In addition, the position maintains independence in management of analytical and quality control functions, provides oversight for internal and external audit, certifications, and proficiency tests, and ensures controls and corrective actions are implemented to maintain the integrity of the quality system.
Moreover, the position assures effective utilization of personnel, interfaces with external accreditation agencies, and assists with regulatory interface for analytical matters.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
- BS degree in Chemistry or other science related field with a minimum of 16 hours Chemistry preferred.
- Lab experience and knowledge of lab instrumentation and equipment.
- Experience working in an ISO17025 and/or National Environmental Laboratory Accreditation Program (NELAP) accredited lab, strongly preferred.
- Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) and/or Database Administrator experience highly preferred.
- Power generation experience and/or environmental compliance experience preferred.
- Experience in planning, scheduling, and budgeting preferred.
- Customer Service experience.
- Documented training and/or experience in QA/QC processes and procedures; overall knowledge of the quality system as defined under National Environmental Laboratory Accreditation Conference (NELAC) and/or National Voluntary Laboratory Accreditation Program (NVLAP).
- Knowledge of laboratory operations and analytical test methods for which data review is performed per NELAC 5.4.1.5 (i) and/or NVLAP.
- Technical knowledge of ASTM, Standard Methods, and EPA analytical methodology, particularly as it applies to analytical methods and testing, instrumentation, and measurement processes.
- Knowledge of chemical analysis as well as experience performing analyses and determining accuracy of tests and samples.
- Demonstrated performance management experience with the ability to set clear goals, define expectations, hold others accountable for business results and to motivate teams to accomplish goals preferred.
- Demonstrated leadership ability to evaluate the effectiveness of the lab’s QA/QC program and to ensure the laboratory meets QA/QC requirements.
- Excellent interpersonal, communication and leadership skills and the ability to interface with both internal and external groups including laboratory employees, customers, power plants, and regulatory and accreditation agencies.
- Strategic thinker with the ability to oversee quality audits and provide guidance to establish processes, guidelines, and controls to maintain the effectiveness of the laboratory’s quality system.
- Ability to prepare and present information to a variety of audiences; demonstrated problem solving and analytical skills to troubleshoot complex issues and establish appropriate compliance controls.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES ( Major responsibilities of the job)
- Focus on Safety Excellence and wellness to ensure employees follow safe work practices; identify and implement corrective actions for unsafe working conditions.
- Provide leadership and direction for a high involvement QA/QC work team to implement quality analytical programs which assure compliance, protect the environment, and reduce costs.
- Effectively manage performance of employees in QA/QC section by developing goals, accountabilities, performance measures and developmental plans; hold employees accountable for demonstrating performance that is consistent with expected performance.
- Oversee the laboratory’s quality assurance by managing functions including QA/QC procedures, data reporting, equipment maintenance and calibration programs, sample receipt, internal and external audits, customer surveys, analytical certifications, and proficiency testing programs.
- Develop partnerships with employees and all appropriate levels of management to effectively manage analytical and quality control procedures that enable the lab to provide cost effective, timely and accurate laboratory services.
- Establish and maintain effective working relations between GPC and external accreditation organizations (NELAC & NVLAP) that directly impact the current and future operations of GPC’s Laboratory. Responsible for representing the company’s position on environmental, operational, and regulatory matters.
- Manage laboratory QA/QC program and resource requirements to meet laboratory standard operating procedures, ASTM, and EPA methods, NELAC and NVLAP requirements, performance testing, round robins, and customer requirements.
- Develop and oversee proficiency testing programs utilizing technology (LIMS) to track and maintain program.
- Focus on efficiency gains via automation and technology.
