Environmental Specialist (Plant Hatch)

We currently have an opportunity located at Plant Hatch, for an Environmental Specialist.

Job Summary

The duties of the site Environmental Specialist are to provide oversight and support of the environmental programs at Plant Hatch located near Baxley, GA. In addition, this position is responsible for actively performing inspections and taking certain environmental samples to ensure world class performance of our site environmental programs.

This person will maintain knowledge of current environmental laws and regulations as they apply to the plant, and use that knowledge to ensure compliance with regulations and permits. This position is responsible for interfacing with regulatory agencies during on-site inspections, and is expected to recognize regulatory issues that require attention and address them appropriately.

Job Experience And Education
• High School diploma or equivalent is required
• Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Chemistry, Biology, Environmental Science or related field is strongly preferred.
• Required environmental qualifications and certifications is preferred.
• 5 or more years of related experience is preferred
• Power plant chemistry and/or power plant environmental programs is preferred.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications desired.
• Experience with industrial safety or industrial hygiene is a plus.
• Must be able to pass a background screening check. All SNC employees are subject to random drug and alcohol testing and must be able to obtain unrestricted access at all three SNC facilities.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
• Familiarity with environmental, transportation, wildlife and corps of engineer programs at a nuclear utility site is preferred but not required (NPDES, CAA, SPCCP, Stormwater, Drinking Water, RCRA, DOT)
• Handle multiple tasks with minimal supervision.
• Strong written and oral communication skills.
• Investigates non-compliance incidents and directs the work activities of contractors and employees in emergency situations.
• Writes plant compliance procedures, instructions, and guidelines.
• Site contact for emergency response to spills and releases and may be contacted after hours and off days.
• Performs specific environmental tests, and maintains current knowledge of other tests to ensure they are performed correctly.
• Ability to analyze complex problems and use problem solving techniques to reach acceptable solutions.
