NUCLEAR SECURITY OFFICER - PLANT FARLEY, COLUMBIA, AL

As an armed Nuclear Security Officer (NSO) at Plant Farley near Dothan, AL you will be part of a well-trained Security organization charged with ensuring safety of personnel and nuclear reactor systems. The high security environment requires an elevated standard of mental and physical readiness in order to successfully deter and defeat the \"Design Basis Threat (DBT).\"

Summary of Position Duties:

The Nuclear Security Officer (NSO) reports to the Shift Lieutenant and supports daily shift activities which maintain site physical security. The responsibilities of the NSO include the following activities.

  • Continuous focus on SAFETY
  • Main gate and protected area access control
  • Vehicle search and escort
  • Personnel screening and search
  • Protected area and vital area patrols
  • Armed tactical contingency response.
  • Rifle live-fire training
  • Annual testing and re-qualification
  • Dependable VIGILANCE at all times, 24/7 Sentry-posts


Job Requirements:

Educational / Background / Experience Requirements:

  • High School diploma or GED
  • Degree in related field desired
  • Two (2) years law enforcement, military, corrections facility, or armed security experience desired
  • Previous nuclear security experience, desired

Essential Physical / Mental Requirements

  • Must meet and maintain Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) requirements of physical fitness including normal weight, as evidenced by Southern Nuclear's current standard for acceptable Body Mass Index ratio/waist circumference.   • Must be able to maintain Southern Nuclear's current standard for NSO physical fitness and work in an active and rigorous environment.

Other Requirements

  • Overtime should be expected; normal range is 10 to 20%.
  • Must be at least 21 years of age.
  • Successful completion of onsite physical abilities test.
  • Selection process may require up to 5 separate visits to the facility to complete all criteria.
  • Successfully meeting background screening and NRC Fitness for Duty requirements.
