Job Summary:
This position is an exciting opportunity for engineers who enjoy the challenges and responsibilities of overseeing and supporting the construction of natural gas transmission and distribution facilities. The right candidate must be a self-starter and able to make sound decisions. Incumbents in this role provide project-level technical support and administer external resources who construct gas utility infrastructure, while delivering on financial and operating objectives. The Project Engineer promotes quality and safety expectations and ensures that those standards are met within a functional area.
Functional Expertise:
- Support the development of technical procedures, projects, and engineering designs related to natural gas pipelines, regulator stations and associated appurtenances by interacting with staff and performing quality reviews to ensure designs meet PHMSA, State, and Company standards
- Makes decisions in the field and coordinates with internal and/or external service providers and support departments (Engineering, System Operations, System Planning, Integrity Management and Material Standards) to ensure that work is performed as planned and in accordance with applicable codes and standards
- Inspects Construction (safety, compliance, quality, materials, locates and restoration)
- Reviews and approves reports, field changes, material requests, and as-built records to ensure compliance and company standards and policies.
- Develops commissioning/retirement operating routines
- Updates as necessary, Management, Engineering, and other applicable stakeholders on project progress
Business Acumen:
- Support the design of engineering solutions that provide the most efficient and cost-effective long-term solutions for ongoing issues with the Company's natural gas system
- Ensure that applicable requirements and standards for reporting are followed
- Assure compliance with Company policies & procedures
- Identify and properly manage project risk
Engagement:
- Collaborate with Construction Operations, System Operations, Engineering, GIS and Asset Data Services, System Integrity and System Planning leaders to produce effective solutions and designs
- Attend regular department and project meetings
- Influences external contractors who represent the company by shadowing corporate values.
- Track project metrics to identify project risks

- BS in recognized engineering discipline from an ABET accredited institution
Preferred: Engineer-in-Training (EIT) Certification
Skills:

- Computer Assisted Design/Geographic Information System - intermediate proficiency
- MS Office - advanced proficiency
Certifications/Licenses:
- Preferred: Engineer in Training (EIT) or Project Management Professional (PMP)
Working Conditions/Physical Requirements:
- The incumbent will be exposed to varying outdoor weather conditions.
- The incumbent will be exposed to construction related activities including walking of construction sites
- This position occasionally requires prolonged standing or walking.
- This position occasionally requires the incumbent to reach above shoulder-level.
- This position occasionally requires the incumbent to climb in/out of excavations, kneel, bend, and climb ladders to inspect pipeline construction activity.
- This position requires the ability to lift up to 25 pounds.
- Local travel with occasional overnight travel

- The incumbent may be exposed to fumes, airborne particles, or chemicals and provided proper PPE.
