Job Summary

This position will perform analytical and accounting tasks in the SCS Shared Services Accounting organization. The successful candidate will be responsible for the ongoing execution and analysis of service company allocations and the coordination of the labor burdening process during financial close.

Primary Job Responsibilities

  • Perform monthly allocation and burdening processes accurately and timely, including ensuring account impact is appropriate.
  • Evaluate new account segments and other accounting changes for potential allocation impact.
  • Provide key support for calculation of SCS allocated cost for jointly owned plants.
  • Provide key support for Gas Service Provider allocated costs.
  • Understand and help ensure compliance with applicable Services Agreements (SCS and/or Gas), including any unique jurisdictional requirements.
  • Ensure compliance with Gas intercompany/cross charging requirements for direct costs between affiliates.
  • Perform account reconciliations and provide support for internal and external audits.
  • Perform accounting tasks in compliance with GAAP and Sarbanes/Oxley requirements. This includes providing reports, schedules, variance analysis, journal entry documentation, memos and explanations supporting each company's financial statements.
  • Provide required information for various regulatory reports and data requests mandated by FERC, EIA, PSCs, and others.


Educational Requirements:

  • A BS/BA degree with major or concentration in Accounting is required.
  • CPA license / advanced degree is preferred.


Experience, Knowledge, & Skills

  • Minimum of 4 years of general accounting experience required.
  • Understanding of GAAP, FERC, SEC and other applicable rules, regulations, and reporting requirements, as well as Southern Company policies and guidelines.
  • Knowledge of Sarbanes-Oxley compliance requirements.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with excellent commitment to accuracy and details.
  • Microsoft Excel proficiency required.
  • Experience with Oracle cloud preferred.
  • Effective written and oral communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to self-direct, manage multiple projects simultaneously, and meet deadlines.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate and build working relationships at all levels of the organization.
