Dear AbilityLinks Supporter,

Please read our latest Newsletter.

AbilityLinks recently marked National Disability Employment Awareness month by holding an online job fair. Here’s an excerpt from a news story about the job fair:

Job Opportunities For Persons With Disabilities Abound During Virtual Job Fair

AbilityLinks.org, the job opportunity website for persons with disabilities and inclusive employers, reported a significant increase in the amount of open employment positions posted to its site during its week-long virtual job fair held October 12-16. This despite published reports of an unemployment rate greater than 10 percent. Read the entire story.

An Employed Person Profile

From time to time, successfully employed individuals share their story to encourage AbilityLinks job seekers and educate businesses. Here is an excerpt from a recent submission:

I broke my neck in a diving accident when I was 16, just 2 weeks before the beginning of my senior year of High School. I rehabbed the fall semester and rejoined my class after Christmas break to finish my requirements and graduate on time.

I made sure I knew how to manage my care (and caregivers), and was knowledgeable and qualified to perform the work involved for the career I was seeking. That involved developing a plan for finding caregivers, performing ADL (self-care) tasks in the shortest possible time (but still maintaining a 'professional' appearance) and getting to and from the work place on-time, everyday, regardless of the weather or if there were any other 'issues' associated with my disability.
